Working in Old Mill

Old Mill is the town centre, built around the canal and the brick buildings that once spun and dyed cloth. Today those buildings hold design studios, a co-working floor, cafés, and flats above the shops. It is our smallest area by map and the busiest by the hour: two crews work here, one by day and one in the evening.

Offices are a large share of the work. Most want their cleaning done after six, so our evening crew starts at Foundry Square and works through the studios on Granary Yard and Mill Race before ten. Shops along the canal are done in the morning, before the shutters go up.

Homes here are mostly walk-up flats, two to four floors without a lift, with timber floors and deep windowsills. We carry light, use stair-safe vacuums, and leave the bulky machines in the van. Carpet cleaning is the exception: the extraction unit stays at the kerb and the hoses go up the stairwell, so tell us your floor when you book.

There is no gutter cleaning or pressure washing in Old Mill. The streets are too narrow for the equipment, and most buildings are managed by their owners’ associations.

We moved out on a Friday and they came Saturday at eight. Three people, five hours, a fixed price agreed beforehand. Limescale off the shower screen, marks off the hallway walls, and the oven back to its original colour. The landlord's checkout report listed nothing to fix.

Booked two hours to hang a mirror, a curtain rail, and fix a cabinet hinge. The rail went into an old plaster wall and took much longer than planned, so the visit ran to nearly four hours. The work is solid, but I would have liked a call before the extra time started.

Kitchen, two bathrooms, and floors done well in about two and a half hours. One point off because the crew changed from the first visit, so I had to explain the dog gate again. The second visit was the same pair as promised.

Can you clean our shop before it opens?

Yes, from 7:00 on weekdays and Saturdays. Most shop cleans take one person about an hour.

Why don't you clean gutters in Old Mill?

The buildings are three to five storeys on narrow streets, which needs a lift we don't run. We can recommend a roofing contractor.

Do you clean offices on a contract?

Yes. Weekly or nightly office cleans are quoted per visit with no minimum term.
